Texas Monthlyis well-known for itsextensive barbecue roundup, but the Lone Star authority has put down the fork and knife in favor of tortillas for its latest list. The December issue ofTexas Monthly features the 120 best tacos in the state
As the magazine cover states, these 120 tacos are the ones you "must eat before you die." Thirteen lucky Texans tasted more than 1,000 tacos from 14 Texas cities over the course of four months. Each was rated on an official scorecard.
You'll have to wait until December to see them all, but you can get a taste of the top 10, which achieved a perfect score, now.
Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ's brisket taco isTexas Monthly's only Austin pick in the top 10. Everything is made in-house at this tiny trailer on Brodie Lane, from the smoked brisket to the savory lime guacamole. Topped with a dash of tomato-serrano salsa, the brisket taco is the epitome of Tex-Mex bundled up in a fresh, handmade tortilla.
