Well it is October, so what better way to spend your weekend than at the premiere German cultural event of AustOberfest (Austin + Oktoberfest)! In its 3rd year, the Central Texas German heritage celebrates bier, as the German’s call it, food and music, that sounds like a great way to start it off. Come on down to Scholz Garten, the oldest business in Texas, at 1607 San Jacinto Blvd. in Austin and check it out. AustOberfest is a benefit of Foodways Texas and is produced by Austin Saengerrunde.
They’ve got all of the Bavarian fun figured out for you. From their Oom Pah Pah party bands, contest stage and bowling to the incredible authentic German fare, it’s all awaiting you. Included in the price of your ticket is unlimited German-style sausage and sides from Central Texas' best meat purveyors; Hoovers, School House Pub, Miller's, Freedmen's, Stiles Switch, Louie Mueller, Micklethwait Craft Meats, Salt & Time, Southside Market and Meyers Elgin Sausage. Tastings of German bier from Karbach Brewing Co. and Shiner Brewing are also included, along with live music entertainment provided by Minor Mishap, Brave Combo, and Czech Melody Masters. It also allows full access to the 17th Street Biergarten and the bowling alley. You’ll sure to be dancing in the streets and singing along, enjoying all that the festival has to offer.
Oh, and if you are really feeling the part, come dressed for the occasion. Yes, that means break out the lederhosens and the dirndl dresses. Rather in the traditional Trachten attire or satirical attire, bring it on, the more the merrier! Boots, steins, Alpine felt hats, Viking helmets, blonde braids and we mustn’t forget the cowbell! You’ll simply have a lot more fun when you are dressed for the party!
So grab your spouse or a friend and join in on the fun at AustOberfest, rated "2014 Best Cultural Event" by Austin Monthly Magazine. ~ Zicke zacke, zicke zacke, HOI HOI HOI!
